OPEN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) is currently seeking interested and qualified candidates for the position described below. As a condition of employment, employees are required to participate in the payroll direct deposit program. POSITION TITLE: DETENTION OFFICER – DEPARTMENT OF THE JAIL



HOURS: Full time, 12-hour shifts with rotating days off, some weekends and holidays. 24-hour operation. May be called in for emergencies or to accommodate staffing requirements.



BASE SALARY: Starting Salary $18.7630/hourly plus annual education incentive: Associate’s $636, Bachelor’s $1,044, Master’s $1,536 plus State Incentive for Career Development Courses up to $1,560. Bi-weekly pay period.



BENEFITS: Florida State Retirement, Employer contributes up to 85% towards Health, Life and Dental Care. Deferred Compensation, Flexible Spending Programs, Tuition Reimbursement, 8 Hours/Month Annual Leave, 14 Paid Holidays/Year, and up to 8 hours quarterly sick leave incentive. Detention Officers will wear a uniform and safety equipment provided by the Sheriff's Office.



DESCRIPTION: Highly responsible security work maintaining physical custody and control of inmates within the Sheriff's Office - Department of the Jail. Responsible for receiving and processing inmates, enforcing disciplinary procedures for the control of inmate behavior, including the application of restraint and use of force techniques, and the preparation of reports and documents necessary for operational procedures.



TRAINING: Detention Officers are provided with agency conducted training, which includes operational issues, policies and procedures, and instructions for performing the duties of the position. Detention Officers are provided with regular in-service training to maintain current CJSTC/FDLE Correctional Officer certification.



REQUIREMENTS: To submit an application:

 Must be at least 19 years of age

 High school diploma/GED

 United States Citizen

 Current, valid Florida driver’s license

 Possess current CJSTC/FDLE Florida Correctional Officer certification

 Must meet or exceed all applicable physical agility standards required by ACSO

 Be of good moral character, have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury or false statements

 Must not have any tattoos that depict violence, gang affiliations, illegal substances or activities



SELECTION: The most qualified applicants will be scheduled for an oral board interview with various representatives of the Sheriff's Office. Selected applicants must successfully complete the requirements of a conditional employment offer and background investigation that includes a polygraph, physical examination, drug screening, and psychological examination.
